Wow. I just have to
start with that because of one reason. WHY DOES BECKY with an i HAVE A GUN!?
Don't you know she's dangerous!? Sorry... i couldn't help myself i had to say
that.
Anywho, Things are
still gon' wonderful for me. I leave next week on January 8th to go into the
mission field. Hpefully then i can start sending my pictures from my camera! So
keep on looking! Well.. look after two weeks. BUT STILL! Time will soon come
when i can send my pictures to photobucket.
So just what happened
this week was failry intersting. I feel like i've gotten very close to my
teacher and he has said a lot of kind things to me. He was struggling a lil'
bit and i gave him my oh so famous quote that always change 'cause i don't
write it down, and it seemed to help him a lot. I wrote it down for him in
portuguese and he said it made sense... Problem is.. i don't believe him but
he's happy anyways! I won't say why he became down but i know i would be pretty
sad about it too if it happened to me.
Also! People here are
crazy on new years! Talk about fireworks all night long! I found out they
consider new years as a bigger holiday than Christmas. When i was goin' outside
to buy some wonderful cookies, Elder Furphy and I where goin' up the street a
lil and either this one guy was totally wasted and didn't know what he was
sayin or he was makin fun of us, BUT! I thought it was pretty funny because
he's all like "Oh you're name is Elder!? MY NAME IS ELDER TOO!" He
said that in portuguese but i figured i'd translate. It was quite funny. For
some reason i just find that the people of Brazil are very kind most times and
they're always willing to listen to a freakishly white person! Today Elder Furphy
was mistaken as a Brazilian since he's tanning like none other and i'm still
whiter than snow. It was quite funny, but Elder Furphy was all like....
"why? Just why?"
So yeah, I'll be
sendin letters sooner or later. I just need to exchange more money because
i didn't think about exchanging it all for some reason. So don't feel like
i've forgotten about you guys!
I honestly don't
know what to say now because i'm spacin' out now. So i'll just end now because
this week wasn't too eventful on stuff. It was just the same old stuff besides
getting a better friendship with my teacher (who's freakishly cool by the way).
Also, i would really love some pictures of family and friends with possibly
your address on the back. Just in case i somehow loose the envelope.
Anyways. I'll send you
my new addresss next week or in two weeks. It depends when my new p-day will be
on. Just know to not send any letters to the mtc anymore! There's someone here
who likes to read all the letters and it's against the law here too but it
still doesn't stop her. So yeah, if i don't have my p-day in the next two
weeks, i'll probably take a picture of a paper that i'll write the address on
and find a place with wifi to send it. So a task for you my wonderful parents,
if i do that i need you to send it to everyone! Not to tough right? Or at least
i hope.
I'll be closing my
message now. I hope all of you have had a wonderful week and know that i'm
thinkin about all of you! If i don't get back to you guys quickly just know
it's only because i'm really focused on my work and i will get to everyone as
soon as possible. I love ya all and that is the truth. Have a wonderful week or
two! Take care! Até Mais!
December 11, 2012
Well this week has
been pretty interesting. We found out that we're not allowed to have
decorations in our classroom walls. It was a lil depressing but we're probably
goin' to leave it up because we know the mission president of the mtc likes
christmas so much that he would love our decorations. Things are still goin
well here and i'm gettin use to the heat and still somehow have not burned
once! i was even outside for 3 hours! it's like 94 degrees right now! Now
that... that really surprised me that i haven't burned AND that i'm still
freakishly white. So i guess i'm still considered a vampire.
Anywho, an elder in my
district has the coolest mom ever! (Sorry mom) His mom always buys him stuff!
Enough for the whole district! It's just flat out crazy! The elder told us,
"yeah..... my dad probably doesn't even know my mom is doing this for
us... but hey?" Everyone in the room just started laughin. I told him to
say think you on behalf of everyone though! Also mom, you are just down right
awesome! i recieved the fruit by the foot and the first thought that came to my
mind was.. "Oh my goodness... i hold the fate of the world in my hands
right now" That's how good it was! And then i started thinkin about
airheads and i was like.. "Good crap... i want an airhead" so i was
goin to send ya this email to ask you to send it but the next day i get a
letter from you sayin that you sent one! And i was all like "DID THAT JUST
HAPPEN!!!!" and then i read the next line... sayin that you had to pay
constoms and there's a chance i will not recieve my airhead.. My hopes were
killed. It was just a sad face moment. But hey? I hope i recieve it this week!
So mail here is goin'
a lil slower 'cause of christmas but i'm still gettin airmail 6-10 days, which
is freakishly good! I don't know how long it'll take me to get letters to
others but i'll have Seth W. Tell ya guys when he recieves his letters.
Remember, i would love to recieve a letter from fmaily and friends so i will be
able to write all of you back. If no one remembers it just email my parents! Or
becky with an i.
And speakin about
becky with an i, I know you may feel a lil down for not me addin you in the
emails but look at it this way! I'm your freakishly awesome bro that's on a
mission and time will fly because now every week of my mission is 1% done which
really makes me feel like my mission is really small.. like freakishly small. I
have 99 weeks left!? i just keep thinkin in my mind "POR QUE?!" it's
just really weird to think of it that way! Time flies so fast here that i don't
even keep track of what time it is. Like i can seriously see myself losin track
of what month i'm on in the mission field and be all like "wow... i have
like a year left for my mission already?" So yeah, pretty intersting
thought! Also if you start missin' me, just look up at the moon durin the
nights and just stare at it for awhile. It's the same moon i look at every
night! that is if i can find it durin the night, but most times i do! So just
remember, i can see the moon, when you're seein the moon. So you might be able
to feel as though i'm really close to you. (this applies to everyone if they're
missin me)
I just want to say
it's really awesome to see all the success families and friends are havin! this
is just wonderful! I"m sorry my email is a lil' shorter tahn usual but i
had to read a ton this week! I feel so loved! Also i love recievein letters
from everyone (so far G. pa and G. ma leanhardt and mom)
Dad, your portuguese
is crazy! You have used words that i don't even know yet. I should just learn
from ya huh? Man, it's like you know more than me!? How am i goin to compete
with a translating program! NOOOOOOOOOOOOO! just watch, i already know some
slang so when i write ya, just you wait! MWAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!
Anyways, i just wanted
to say i love ya all! And again, thanks for your support, it helps me big time!
Just remember i'll always write you guys back if you want to have a personal
chat with me. (Through letter i mean) Take care everyone, I hope you have a
wonderful week this week, and i hope all is well with everyone! Thanks for
showin' your love for me and i'll be sure to write a huge email next week! I'll
be typin faster as well so expect a lot of mistakes!! WOOOO typos!!! (I know
someone will be happy to see them!) i know everyone loves seein my typos! but
yeah, all is well for me and i'm still learnin tons. Love ya all take care and
sweet dreams for 7 nights! and good mornin for 7 days! Talk to you all next
week and remember to have fun!
December 4, 2012
OH MAN IT'S REALLY HOT
HERE! Right now i think it's about 90 degrees or 100.
Who knows. All i know is that i'm really hot (Appearance wise too if i might
add. Okay just kidding, haha). Anywho, I'm sure things have been goin great
the past week. I'm still unsure if we get to email on christmas but i do
know it's really not likely.
Dad, holy crap... I'm guessin' google translate really does work? If you're
really not usin that or any other program that translates stuff for you.
Then i'm really impressed. I know that you'll probably say "NO! i never use
translaters!" Yeah.. uh huh! I know how a Tippetts act! I'm on to ya! If
you're raelly learnin' this language than i think it'll be a blast to speak
together through letters and such! Also that's really cool that you got a
new calling but i thought that was already your calling before i left? Well
beside the HP thing. How's that goin? (If i read that right).
Somethin just flat out amazing happened to me this week. So i'm learnin the
language very well but i'm not to the point where i can always talk super
fast and have words come to my mind quickly, but when i was givin' someone a
blessing, a brazilian, he chose me to do it because i can talk the best and
what not and the other elders didn't want to do it because they felt i was
best suited for it as well. So i gave this man a blessing in all portuguese
and the words was just comin right to my mind. It was such an amazing
experience and i wrote in my journal so i would never forget it. I just
thought i'd share that with ya guys because i'm sure it'll help someone who
reads this email either in the long run or short run (if that makes sense).
It has been fun learnin the language because i found out in portuguese there
is no word for awesome! I was all like... serio? (serious) but you can say
thing close to it like muito bom or muito ben (very good/well).
Things have been pretty fun here even though i am forced to sing in the
choir. It's not to bad if the leader doesn't choose a freakishly slow song
like she tends to do. We sang come thou fount in english, spanish, and
portuguese and it was just an amazing sound. It's also probably the best
hymn or song that i can sing haha.
Mom, i recieved your first letter not through mission ties in 11 days.
It said it was air mailed with a post thing but i don't think it was because
another elser that lives in pynnsylvania gets his in 5-7 days through air
mail but who knows? I guess idaho is just rude with their mail or somethin.
I've been enjoyin all the letters that i have recieved even though it was
only been from mom. I think it would be just amazing if i recieved letters
for christmas. That would be way better than buyin me cookies as a present.
(You can do both if you really want to). Either way i still have high hopes
that my chrstmas will be pretty good even though it's all planned out.
My district is still doin well and we're pickin up the language together.
I've been able to speak with the brazilians that are in my room and it's
just really easy speaking to them even though they talk faster than my
instructor and i reply, most of the time, just as fast as they talk to me.
No one in the room is really understanding what i'm sayin to the brazilians
but they seem to know what i'm sayin so i think i'm doin freakishly well!
Also i really like readin all the emails that i have recieved no matter how
short they are! I've heard from everyone in the my family except Eric and
Jacob! Someone needs to tell them that they need to email me and if they
don't they should get coal for chrasitmas! ESPECIALLY JACOB! (I just love
pickin' on ya jacob, and hopefully this will make you write to me).
Well my time is almost up and i think i've said all the cool stuff that has
happened this week. Every day i learn more and more and people around me say
they've hit a dead end and they're not learnin anythin right now. I just
wonder how that can be because i strive to learn more and more each day even
if it's small stuff like wood or paper. i guess that's why ive been
progressing more than others. But yeah, things are goin' great, i've been
lovin' the letters especially 'cause i can read them over again.
Amo vocês muito e eu estou muito grato para todos! têm uma semana bem! love
ya guys a lot! and i'm very grateful for everything! Take care everyone and
i'll write ya another day. Remember to when you're havin a bad time to focus
on the good things that have happend to you! (Seth you should be recieving
my awesome quote and letters in the next couple of weeks, i hope you get
this and the letters!) Bye everyone! Again, Love ya all and thank you so
much for your support!

November 27, 2012
Wow, first off, i have
gotten a ton of emails from the family. That's pretty
awesome! I still haven't recieved one letter though! Kinda depressing but i
just remember that i didn't tell everyone the right address. From the last
address i sent you need to put (BOX# 27 DISTRICT#
45-C) on the SECOND row. It doesn't really matter though. As long as you
have casa verge and the other stuff i put on my letter you should be able to
get your letter to me. Also i sent my missionties account today so if you
get the thing please make an account and write me. I would love to hear from
ya guys. I only haev one address with me and i'll be able to send my first
letter next week. I'm so excited! hopefully he can help me out gettin the
message to my other friends because i think you have the wrong address for
two emails unless you send them in the letter wrong to me. One was in the
wrong finger positions, but luckily i remembered. The letter i'm sending is
goin to Seth W. and his email you sent me looked wrong so if ya don't mind
will you send that to me again? (Sorry Seth) looks at the birght side
though? In about 3 to 4 weeks you'll have the first letter from me!
Today has been really hot but in the morning it was perfect. Huge down pour
of rain. No one liked it but me... Oh well there lost! Clouds are just
amazing and lots of rain is just the best. I found out that my companion has
members in his ward from Gene's ward! There last name is cristfield,
somethin like that. They moved about 4 years or so ago so you should ask
Gene if he knows them still! Anywho, i just want to reply back to Scott
sayin the exact words he said to me! And for Chary... I'll try to speak in
her language. fjdk sldkei djfkd sldk shdj. Hopefully she'll understand what
that mean! Thanks for that though, seein that Chary wrote somethin for me
just made me laugh! Everyone one in the room was like "why are you smiling"
like it's a bad thing here, haha.
Things are still goin' wonderful around here. I found out Another girl will
be added to my district so i'll have 9 in total. Sadly she has a
disadvantage because she has lost 4 weeks of learning portuguese. Don't
worry. I'll assign my district to help her, and i'll make sure everyone
does. I now haev Brazilians in my dorm now. It's so cool! Down side is, they
don't sleep because they're use to 3-4 hours of sleep. One of them goes to
bed on time though. He's out cold basically. I wish i could do that. Also
don't worry mom, i have combs for my hair.
Dad, your portuguese was acatually pretty good. I don't know what rever or
soemthin like that means yet but everything else i understood! Ive actuallly
gotten to the point where some english words i have to think about because i
have used so much portuguesse to replace the couple of words. It's kinda
great. I can't wait until i think in just portuguese so i can talk to the
brazillians quicker. I already talk pretty fast and it's goin great. In two
weeks i'll be teachin' brazilians in the own lanuguage because i have to
speak for a devotional, but i'm not worried because my companion will be
there and i think the rest of my district as well.
Also, I did get thanksgiving. The cooks here are awesome. They look sad but
they're so happy when they see a North American speakin' their language. I
understand like 98% of what they're sayin'. Everyone in my district looks at
me when they don't understand and 9 out of 10 times i can tell them what the
brazilians have said. I guess to my district the brazilians talk way too
fast. Luckily i had spanish to help me with learnin how to listen to fast
speakers! And to let everyone know. Spanish has helped a ton! so for all
those who said it would be hard, thanks for putin' that in my mind because
now i know it really isn't so i don't really need to be nervous at all.
Oh, the cookies are so amazing at Mr. Chaney. You ever see those commercials
where they split somethin in half and have that chocolate bein seperated in
slow-mo? Yeah you can totally do it with these cookes. So awesome! Sorry
about not havin any pictures though. I won't be able to send any until i get
to the field! I have to develope them if i want to send it to you guys and
it's 1 reis for each picture. I'm unable to plug my SD card in the computer
because it's not allowed to plug your stuff in the computers here. I'll try
my best to get it to ya guys as soon as possible!
Also i love dad's and becky's new name! That made me laugh too. I'm glad to
hear the family is havin a wonderful time despite my awesomeness bein there.
And i do have a question, will you send me the list of emails that you have
so i can see if there's any errors on it? Or will you just ask my friends to
email you back so i know they're gettin the emails as well? If they're not
than i can add to my letter real quick to Seth (since he's the only one who
gave me his address) the way they can write to me quicker.
Thanks for everything. And thanks for the wonderful letter family! If you
buy me like 50 cookies from mr. chaney for Christmas... I'll be set for
life... well i take that back. I'll be set for 2 weeks! okay fine.... i'll
try to push for 4 weeks! Also don't worry about the clothing price here.
It's way cheaper. I can get all my stuff for about 3 reis, wich is a dollar
50 or so. It's real cheap. I love ya all, and i hope all is well for you
guys! take care! Have a wonderful week!

November 20, 2012
These week has been just
really awesome and really tiring. I guess i'm not
use to having 8 hours of sleep when i usually have 5 or 4. It's really
throwing me off. Also it was like 70 degrees one day and you all know how i
love wearing shorts and a t-shirt when it's around 40 degrees or so. So
yeah.. i was so cold that i actually wore a sweeter over my tie and white
shirt... I was freezing! WHAT IS THIS WORLD COMING TO!? i mean me? Getting
cold at 70 degree weather? That's just messed up! Everyone was teasin me
about it sayin, "oh look the guy who stands 30 degree weather is wearin' a
sweeter today!" it was pretty funny and i just told them some stuff in
portuguese that only my Companion and i knew at the time.
Today is really hot and there is no breeze what so ever. I think it might be
around 80ish degrees. Also i found out that i gave everyone the wrong
address for sending me letters so if you guys don't mind forwarding this to
all my friends again that'll be way nice. Right now they have the area for
my mission field and not the MTC area.

So yeah, sorry about that. I look forward in reading some letters if anyone
finds the time to send me any. You guys sould be getting a email about
mission ties for me sooner or later. I still need the e-mails so it might be
next week until you get the mission ties e-mail. Please accept it so we can
communicate faster!
I just wanted to say that i love you all and i'm so glad to know that the
family is doing wonderful. Just wanted to add that i'm so freakishly proud
of ya Becky! I wish was there to see the prophet, i'm so jealous! I just
can't wait until i get to see the opening of the Meridian Temple. Now that i
won't miss. Hopefully. As for Scott, i know i have such an awesome
companion, he acts a lot like you so i just feel like i'm still at home.
Also i found out an awesome way to keep my district that i oversee from
getting homesick. We have prayer together in our room and I like to call it
"family prayer" and they didn't understand why i always called it that until
one of them was feeling a lil' homesick. It was such an awesome experience.
I feel like i'm doin my role as the district leader fairly well even though
i have to write about 3-4 pages a week for lettin my president know how well
my district is doing. It takes a lot of time.
I'm still learning the language really quickly. Its rediculous. Some days i
can think of things so fast that i just say it and i can talk fast but other
days i'm just wipped out and i'm just really tired so my teacher bribes my
class with chocolate to keep us awake. For some reason it works.
Also people say you lose pounds in the MTC. I haven't lost one pound so i'm
wondering if i have been eating healthy all this time! Even though i had
about 3-10 cookies a week! I feel like i'm missing out on the cookies
though! No one here makes them! I have to buy them at a store but it's
really nice because the cookies are freakishly huge for a dollar or so in
american money.
Anywho, i lost my train of thought so i'm going to just type some randomness
until my time is up or until i figure out what i was thinking.
(My companion told me that there's people in his ward that knows Tippetts
from idaho) But yeah things are stilll awesome here besides goin up the
stairs of heck (that's what i like to call it because it is so long) it
takes me about 30 seconds to get to the top if i'm skipping every other
stair. It's pretty difficult but so fun even though it's so painful
sometimes beacuse of gym making my muscles sore.
Speaking of gym. The max weight they allow here is 210 pounds for all the
exercise eqquipment and i can almost max in all of them! The leg ones are
just way to easy. There's just one arm one i can't do and it's weird to
exaplain how to do it but i can do 160-170. It's a workout equipment that
works mostly the trisept and some of the bisept and forarms. It's really
interesting. I don't go to that part of the gym often. I usually stick to
plaing volleyball because i just flat out own in that game. I got about 20
serving points in one go until my team lost the ball for the first time. So
now my goal is to beat that! Also there's an elder in my dorm that plays
basketball, and we played HORSE last night and he showed no remorse in
letting me win. He's always do insane throws and somehow manage to make it.
The score was me: HORSE Elder Tilby: H and the last game he got a perfect
score. He's so funny though. He's basically my doctor here whenever i don't
feel good because he has medicine for everything because his mom is a lil'
protective.
I just wanted to end this email with sayin, i love you guys a ton and i
loved the emails! thanks for keepin them short so i have time to read and
write back. Sorry that i only send one email though. I figured one email
that is rediculously huge should be good? again, i love you all and i hope
everyone is doing fantastic! Don't worry about me. The language is coming
easy to me! Thank you everyone for all the support you have given me. It
helps me a ton! I don't know what i'd do without the support of my family
and friends! Take care everyone and Have a wonderful week! Love ya all!
use to having 8 hours of sleep when i usually have 5 or 4. It's really
throwing me off.

November 13, 2012
It's been pretty intersting here in Brazil. Sao pualo has gotten quite a
bit of rain and has been pretty hot some days. The
thunder is just amazing,
I love it. Sadly my email won't be too long because i am timed on the
computer for 30 minutes. So if there are any errors and my i are lowecase,
it's because i want to type as fast as i can so i can get as much info. out
as possible!
I've been picking up the language very easily but the one word that i'm
having troubles with is dia. It means day. i keep saying it like how it is
in spanish but its different in portuguese. Other than that i've already
gave about four lessons in portuguese which is just flat out crazy
considering that i've only been here for a week starting tomorrow!
It's really fun here so if you're still freaking out that i'm not alive or
i'm hurt in any way, don't be. People here are way nice and they are
sometimes pretty crazy. I'm not to the point to where i can understand
everything when the brazilians talk freakishly fast, so they like to tease
me and talk even faster. I find it a little funny cuz i just talk back in
english just to get them back. Haha. Anywho! that is not the missionary way,
so i'll work on that maybe. Another thing about the brazilians is that i'm
almost taller than all of them by a foot. I've only encountered a couple of
brazilians who are taller than me.
Surprisingly enough, with all the sun i have gotten, i have not burned yet!
This proves that i'm not so freakishly white that everyone thinks i am!
Mwhahahahahaaha! And if you're wondering, i am basically the whitest person
here besides a couple people who have red hair here.
I've been loving the MTC a ton! Well here it's called the CTM since the
language puts the words in that order. My companion and i have progressed
very quickly and the other people in my district are wonderin how. I think
it's cuz we find insults to say to each other in portuguese. Don't worry
they're just words like "annoying cat" which is gato chato.
That also reminds me. I am the district leader of my district which i find
pretty crazy because they selected me after 4 days of being here. The guy
who selected me said quote, "I am glad to have someone like you in my
country, i would like to speak to you further today." It was a great moment
for me, and it really made me feel good inside. Bein district leader makes
it so i have to go to more meetings so my companion said to me right of fthe
bat, "you're district leader aren't you" and i said yes and he was like
"ELDER TIPPETTS!? WHY!? NOW WE HAVE TO GO TO MORE MEETINGS!" i said sorry
and we just laughed it off.
My companion's name is Joshua Furphy, he's an awesome guy and basically acts
exactly like me.We are constantly teasing each other until the phrase we're
using gets old. So we find a new one.
I went to the temple today in sao pualo. It's way bigger than the idaho
temple, but the rooms are just as nice and clean. It was an awesome place to
be. Luckily i had a translater there to help me out through all the places
whithin the temple.
Again, the people here are amazing and kind, and my teachers are just
wonderful. I found out that there's a thing called missionary ties here that
allows me to recieve things quicker. I believe for those who email me
they'll print it out for me so i can write a letter to you guys faster so
you here from me every month and not just every 2 months. It seems like a
better deal, but i'm not sure if there's one in brasilia. So just keep this
in mind and I'll try to contact everyone as soon as possible. So for those
who have sent me letters. Do not fear. I haven't gotten them yet. Also jsut
to make it clear DO NOT SEND ANYTHING TO ME! I won't get it in time because
packages take up to 4 months to get here so i'll be long gone and the people
here won't have my records to obtain the package. So please just hold onto
the stuff that you may have gotten me.
And since this email format is way different... My companion Elder Furphy,
is making fun of me because i'm askin him so many questions because i don't
know where things are, but apparently it's just like gmail. So i have to
say... gmail sucks! okay now that's out of my system... and i'm just joking.
it doesn't suck, it's kinda of nice, but no one needs to know that!
I just want you guys to know that I love you all and that you don't have to
worry about me, I'm doing great and the food here is interesting but good!
Take care everyone and have a good day! When i send this email to ya guys
it'll be like... still morning for ya!
Another thing since i have 5 min left.. I didn't really have much of a jet
lag, which i found very strange because it's 4 to 5 hours differnce here and
the humidity was just aweful, but i believe i'm now use to it which is a
plus side to everything!
Alright for reals now. Take care everyone, I hope things in the United
States is goin great for you guys, love ya all!
(For dad: i figured mom checks her email more than you so i felt it would be
saffer to send to her. Also can you send me the list of the people i want
you guys to contact? It's important for the missionry ties thing.) AGAIN!
take care everyone. I bet things are goin great for you! And just to let you
know, i think this is the longest email i have ever sent in my life! I
think... Bye everyone! I"ll type another email next week!
